I spent most of this week doing more design research on YouTube to see how other designers achieve a certain visual style. I finalized my decision in using yellow roses for the beginning scene and created this vector illustration to use as an asset in my animation.

I wanted this rose to match the visual style as much as possible, but with the varying styles of flat graphics and gradient, I might iterate more on this and the tulip assets further as I start polishing my animation to completion.

I had struggled the most with coming up with contrasting color palettes to represent two opposite emotions. After playing around with the results of Firefly, I wasn’t getting any valuable results for my animation, so I experimented with Adobe Illustrator’s generative color. This allowed me to expand on the colors I’m using to create a more dynamic piece, and potentially have a new visualization for my animation.

This week I created a prototype for my box using cardboard in the IDM Design Lab. I experimented with the threshold of my photo sensor, which I had to consider that if the box was fully enclosed, the light would consistently stay on. I left the sides of the box open, and instead of using a hole for the sensor, I would use one of the open sides of the box. My plan for this week is to create a box with a different material.

For the animation, I completed all the scene animations except for the very first scene. I also began to think about the sound design of the animation. The animation as a whole currently feels non-stylized and flat, so there is more ideation I need to work on for the style.
